– On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the Women and Child Development Department organized a state-level event at Raj Bhavan, Mumbai, featuring the unveiling of a ‘Rupay Card’ adorned with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s portrait. This initiative aims to enhance digital financial inclusion among women beneficiaries of the ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Behen’ scheme.
Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan, addressing the gathering, emphasized that government schemes have empowered women to become entrepreneurs through self-help groups, thereby strengthening the rural economy. He noted that women’s contributions are vital for national development, citing their significant roles across various sectors, including defense.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted that without women’s participation, national progress is unattainable. He announced that, by 2029, political reservations for women would position Maharashtra as a ‘women’s state.’ Reflecting on historical figures like Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule, Jyotirao Phule, Punyashlok Ahilyadevi Holkar, and Rajmata Jijabai, he stressed that embracing their ideals can lead to societal advancement.
Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare revealed plans to organize special Gram Sabhas across Maharashtra every March 8 to promote women’s rights, improve their quality of life, and ensure their safety. She called on various stakeholders, including NGOs and self-help groups, to actively participate in these initiatives.
The event also honored outstanding women achievers in fields such as administration, sports, and arts. Notably, Sujata Saunik, the state’s first woman Chief Secretary, was felicitated for her exemplary service. Additionally, the ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Behen’ scheme’s beneficiaries have established the Women’s Honor Credit Society in Nagpur, promoting financial independence among women.
This celebration underscored the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment, recognizing their indispensable role in achieving a developed and inclusive India by 2047.
